I have with great pleasure accepted the invitation to write something about
Jimmys art for this homepage. It is an easy task, since I have always been a
great admirer of the man himself and his wonderful paintings.
The distance between Jimmy's idea and the final work is always smaller than
the length of the hairs of his brushes, and he would never dream about
consulting the history of art when he chooses his materials.He uses with
same ease the traditional media of painting, as he employs those of his own
choice, silver lace, polyurethane foam, pool balls, melted records and raw
spaghetti.
It is his fresh and unpolished impression which is submitted to the canvas,
in a process which can best be described as an explosion. There is no way
for Jimmy to rework anything. Every new impulse gets its own new canvas and
ends up as an image of its own. The form is rough, vital, expressive and
direct, but still, in a very special way, every image ends up containing the
whole story.
Jimmy Jorgensen has been the established enfant terrible on the art scene of
Ellsinore for the last twenty years, having stroked a long range of
controversial exhibitions and happenings, as for example a former exhibition
in Toldkammeret, of paintings made on Soviet flags which Jimmy collected
during
a trip to Russia. That was an exhibition which made the hairs raise on the
heads of the established cultural elite of the town.
The career of Jimmy Jørgensen started twenty years ago, through a strong
inspiration from "The Old Wilde", the Copra group, and he has, with
everlasting energy and alone, represented the quality of the abstract
expressionism in the happy corner of Sjælland in all these years. It is to
be considered as horrible misunderstanding that his paintings are still not
represented in all the official institutions in the area. But there is still
not one.
Jimmy Jørgensen has never allowed himself to be corrupted by opposition,
conventions or good taste! He has never intended to make anything which
should be nice or beautiful, he is completely uninterested in anything which
is correct or "in", he is not there to please anybody! Jimmy is primarily
working honestly and spontaneously, rough and directly, and the final result
is often breathtaking. You are left with your feet in the air, and there is
no list of result.
Despite the fact that we live in the year of 2002, many of Jimmy's works go
far beyond the limits of what we are used to se, or what can be subject to
an academic discussion. That is quite an achievement. The expression is
simply so potent, that you have to go a little away to digest, - but do
yourself the favour to return for another look, and maybe one more time.
Jimmys works stands as facts which challenges us, as the viewers, to undergo
our own internal transformation, - and note this, if you are not ready to do
that here and now, then it is ok for Jimmy!
He is generous without limits, and he has always had the time to wait. He
does as he used to do, he creates solely according to his own inner
necessity, and for the joy of those who dares to open their minds and eyes
to se that he does it, not in his own, but here in our , very important,
mutual universe.
